Logan High School - Our High School - Needs Help
As you know better than most, Logan is home to a wide range of programs, services and curricular choices for students. The Home of the Might Colts also has an elite caliber athletic program, winning many league, state, and national individual and team titles and counting many professional/Olympic athletes as alumnus. In addition, Logan is home to a rich performing arts program, with National titles in band, color guard, and forensics. While these programs have provided thousands of students with an extraordinary experience these experiences and opportunities are in jeopardy due to the state budget. A parcel tax measure that would have guaranteed their future recently failed by a few votes, and now these programs face deep cuts and in some cases, elimination. Please help support our rich and unique co-curricular programs for next year!
If every alumni would donate, Logan could guarantee another year of funding for these amazing programs. Please give all that you can give. The link to donate is on the left side of the New Haven School Foundation home page. People can donate online at: http://www.nhsfoundation.org/index.php . You can also mail a check to: New Haven Schools Foundation, 33377 Western Avenue, Union City, CA 94587.

New Haven Boosters Association (NHBA) by Michael Ritchie
New Haven Boosters Association (NHBA) is a group of students, parents, teachers, administration, and community leaders focused on raising awareness & funding to support Co-curricular Activities for the New Haven Unified School District (NHUSD). Programs such as sports, band, choir, drama, dance, forensics, color guard, student clubs and much more, provide a level of enrichment for our children that will impact their education and their ability to contribute to the community as adults. These programs also provide worthwhile after school activities that keep students off the streets and make our community a safer place.
The Co-Curricular budget for the NHUSD for 2011-12 is $467,000, the majority of which is for staffing stipends that supervises, direct, and support student afterschool activities. Although NHBA realizes that we can’t raise all of this on its own, we are dedicated to raising awareness and enough funds that will carry our community through this financial crisis. In the meantime, the money we raise and the more we are able to demonstrate to the NHUSD Board that we, as a community, are serious about keeping these vital programs that we are putting our own money behind them!
As of Fall 2010, the New Haven School district is saying there is a good chance Co-Curricular programs will be maintained for the 2011-12 school year, but this isn’t 100% certain. A final determination will be made in the first half of 2011 once the state budget situation is better known. New Haven School District has cut all co-curricular programs from the projected budget of 2012-13. NHBA plans to continue to raise money until we can once again rely on the state to provide adequate funding.
NHBA’s mission is to support all NHUSD co-curricular programs. While the vast majority of the co-curricular funding does support James Logan High School, funding also supports Alvarado and Cesar Chavez Middle Schools. Since our community has a single comprehensive high school, nearly every elementary and middle school child is scheduled to attend Logan. Therefore, they too will benefit from the effort we make today! NHBA also envisions a time in which we can support expanded programs at the elementary level.
Please join in our efforts to save co-curricular activities for the future generations of New Haven. For more information, go to: http://www.newhavenboosters.org
